In true Belgian fashion table service prevails with no standing permitted. A comprehensive beer menu lists and describes all the beers with new guest beers being available on a weekly basis, and of course all beers are served in their appropriate glasses.
In the summer tables are available outside - very popular on those warm summer evenings.

'The wonderfully civilised drinking culture of Belgium was undoubtedly the main inspiration for Le Trappiste, coupled with the incomparable range and quality of Belgian beers it makes for the most perfect enviroment in which to indulge oneself'
Belgium has to be the worlds most exotic beer country creating more styles and flavours than anywhere else.
Michael Jackson remarked 'No country has so many distinct styles of beer, no country has beers that are so complex in character, no country has so many individualistic brews... The respect reserved for wine in most countries is in Belgium accorded to beer'.
Fortunately but not by accident the diversity of Belgium's beer is matched by that of it's many wonderful bars such as A La Becasse in Brussels where waiters dressed in Monks' aprons serve the establishments own sweetish, slightly bitter Lambic in earthenware jugs to the table.

RECOMMENDED BEERS
Light Blonde Beer Ultra Soiffe
Brewery: Ecaussínes
Strength: 5% ABV
This beer pours a pale yellow colour with a foamy head. The aroma of sweet summer fruits and delicate blending result in a light summer beer that is light and hoppy perfect for those warm evenings.
Light Brown Beer Dolle Brouwers Oerbier
Brewery: de Dolle Brouwers
Strength: 7.0% ABV
A light ruddy brown ale. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it has been blended with wine… Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast and vitamins, to help with you daily allowance. Perfect!
Abbey Beer Het Kappitel Abt Tripel
Brewery: Van Eecke
Strength:10.0% ABV
Unlike other Abbey premium beers, typically potent and dark, Het Kappitel Abt is produced in the tripel style. Light golden in colour but strong in flavour this deceptive beer is full-bodied with a bitter hop aftertaste.
Fruit Beer Mort Subite Kriek
Brewery: Keersmaeker
Strength:4.5% ABV
From the famous Mort Subite café in Brussels. This kriek has a striking reddish pink colour. The taste itself is quite sweet with an elusive sharp citrus note. At the sweeter end of the kriek spectrum.!
Gueuze Girardin Gueuze
(black label)
Brewery: Girardin
Strength: 5.0% ABV
Arguably the best gueuze currently available – very dry & acidic. The palate is complex with an abundance of aromatic notes. This Gueuze has a long finish, rich with grapefruit and sour apple flavours.
Unique Beer Saison Dupont
Brewery: Dupont
Strength: 6.5% ABV
This beer was originally produced for the end of harvest, the farmers would sit in the fields after a hard days toil enjoying this wonderfully refreshing beer. It is golden oak in colour with a dry, herbal consistency, packed with hops. When poured it gives off a huge aroma and delivers a lingering after burn. The archetypal modern saison..
On the facade of the Maison des Brasseurs, in Brussels' Grand Place, you'll see the words:
It is by the grace of Saint Arnold and the experience of mankind that Heaven and Earth spawned that divine drink, Beer.
A statement which perhaps characterises the passion for beer in a country which produces 600+ of them.
At Le Trappiste, we offer a taste of this diversity and passion for Belgium's most prized possession.
Le Trappiste currently stocks 12 draught Belgian beers including Westmalle, La Chouffe and Liefmans Frambozen. (No draft Leffe Blonde, Hoegaarden or the 'S' word guaranteed). These are supplemented by an extensive range of bottled beers (100+) including all the Trappist beers, the famously sour and acidic lambic beers from Cantillon and other specialities, all served in the appropriate glass. In common with the best Belgian bars the beers are presented for the customer to pour personally.
Le Trappiste is committed to provide a constantly changing and increasing range of the very best Belgian beers!

SAD NEWS
We have the sad news of the closure of the Liefmans Brewery, famous for their outstanding fruit beers Kriek and Frambozen. There are a few companies interested in taking the brewery over, and hopefully they will start brewing again. We will keep you posted of any developments in this area. For the moment though, we have increased our stock of fruit beers to compensate, for those of you that adore the 'fruit' beers, and there are many of you.
