Located on the main road through the built up area of West Timperley, the pub is midway between Altrincham and Sale, just a short walk from South Trafford College and Timperley Metro station. Next to the Premier Travel Inn, Manchester Altrincham North.
Ideally situated for those going to Old Trafford, which is only 3 miles away. Our 3 large plasma screen are ideal for watching sports, bringing in large crowds during the football season. We welcome both Man City and Man United supporters who all get along with each other very well, the derby games have a fantastic atmosphere.
Refurbished in November 2005, our trouble free and female friendly establishment attracts families for dining everyday of the week, particularly for Sunday lunch.
At the back of the pub is the Premier Travel Inn with 48 en-suite rooms, an excellent location for business people working locally and in Manchester during the week.
The pub has an open plan layout with two raised areas. Food is served throughout the pub and is available from a varied John Barras menu everyday between 12 noon and 8:30pm. There is a food promotion of 2 meals for £8 at present which is going down very well with the locals.

The History of The Old Pelican Inn
The first record on an Inn on this site dates back to 1530 when Henry VIII was on the throne. There was a healing-well nearby and visiting invalids often stayed here.
The hostelry changed names many times, being known as Hardie’s Tenement, Higginson’s of the Brook, The Coach and Horses, from 1766 as the Lamb and Punchbowl, and finally becoming the Old Pelican in 1799.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it was used as a major staging post for Royal Mail coaches on their way from Manchester to Chester and London.
The Old Pelican is said to be haunted by Thomas Brennan, known as Timperley Tom, who was hanged on Bucklow Hill for the murder of Jacob Pott of Hale on December 30th 1790. A reward of £100 had been offered for his capture. A rhyme was written on a poster after the hanging
“Good people now be warned by me,
If I had never done this deed,
I would not hang upon this tree,
but be alive in Timperley”
The Old Pelican was rebuilt in 1933 at a time when no Sunday Licences were available, but you could get a drink if you had travelled more than three miles. Consequently great business was done serving drinks to cyclists from Stretford and Manchester.
In 2005 The Old Pelican become part of the John Barras & Co estate.
The Motel was built in 1982 and is a Premier Travel Inn, Manchester Altrincham North.
